Texas Solar Orphan Rescue

Stuck paying for solar that doesn't pay back?

Tens of thousands of Texas solar owners have been stranded by shrinking buyback programs. When your buyback contract expires, typically 12 to 36 months in, your retail electric provider isn't obligated to renew it. Your solar still generates. The grid still takes it. You still get nothing back. We call these homeowners Solar Orphans.

The problem: Your solar still works. Your loan still bills. Your power exports go to the grid for free. And when the next ERCOT freeze hits, you're sitting in the dark like everyone else.

The SOLRITE Battery VPA solution: A 60 kWh Duracell Max Hybrid battery captures your solar surplus and stores it for evening use, offsetting grid costs directly. Your battery also earns through grid services, which is what funds the discounted energy rate you get through a SOLRITE-approved REP partner. Plus full backup when the grid drops. $0 upfront.

How the Battery VPA
actually works.

You don't buy the battery

SOLRITE owns the Duracell equipment. You pay nothing upfront. No loan, no balloon payment, no $30,000 invoice for a system that needs replacing in 10 years.

Grid services pay for it

Your Duracell battery participates in the Virtual Power Plant during peak demand. The revenue covers the equipment cost, and lets a SOLRITE-approved REP partner deliver electricity to you at a discounted energy rate.

You get backup + savings

Whole-home backup when the grid drops. Lower retail bills via the approved REP. Zero maintenance hassle. SOLRITE covers any battery replacement during the 20-year agreement.

Why a VPA, not a loan

The math is simpler. The risk is smaller.

Most home batteries cost $20,000 to $40,000 outright. Financing rolls that into a 10-year solar loan, plus interest. Lithium batteries typically last around 10 years in good conditions, meaning a buy-it-yourself system often hits a replacement bill before it's paid off.

With the SOLRITE Battery VPA, none of that is your problem. SOLRITE owns the Duracell equipment. If anything fails during the 20-year agreement, we replace it. You get the backup power, the lower retail rate, and the rescued solar value, without ever taking on the financial risk of owning the hardware.

A typical day with your battery

Solar by day. Battery by night.

Here is how a normal day flows through your Duracell battery, hour by hour.

  1. 8 AM

    Solar powers the home

The sun comes up and your panels run the house directly. Anything the home is not using flows into the Duracell battery.

  2. 2 to 3 PM

    Battery reaches full

Midday surplus tops off the battery, which is usually full by early afternoon. From here on, extra solar is stored, not sent to the grid for pennies.

  3. 6 PM

    The battery runs the house

After sunset, the home switches to stored solar and runs on the battery through the evening. No grid power needed while the battery has charge.

  4. 5 to 6 AM

    A short grid window

If the battery draws down overnight, the grid covers a short stretch at your discounted energy rate. Solar takes back over around 7:30 AM and the cycle starts again.

Battery vs. gas generator

Backup power without the generator bill.

A gas generator

  • Roughly $15,000 to $25,000 installed, out of your pocket
  • About $300 to $600 a year in fuel and service
  • Runs at 65 to 75 dB, loud enough to hear across the yard

The SOLRITE Battery VPA

  • $0 upfront, a low monthly rate, nothing to finance
  • No fuel, no oil changes, no annual service call
  • Silent, and it powers your home every day, not just in an outage
