What is the Battery VPA, in one sentence?

It is a Virtual Power Plant Agreement: SOLRITE installs and owns a Duracell battery on your home for $0 upfront, the battery earns revenue by supporting the grid, and that revenue is what pays for the equipment, not you.

Who owns the battery, and what happens if it wears out?

Accepted Answer

SOLRITE owns the Duracell equipment for the term of the agreement. We maintain it and replace it if it fails, at no cost to you, during the 20-year agreement. Most batteries last about 10 years, so plan on at least one fully covered swap. At the end of the term you can renew or buy the system for $0.

What's the difference between a VPA and a lease or PPA?

Accepted Answer

A solar lease bills you monthly for the equipment. A PPA bills you monthly for the energy the system generates. A VPA bills neither. Grid-services revenue from your battery covers the equipment, so you get the system without paying for it directly.

Will the battery back up my whole home?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your home, and we are honest about that up front. Before any install, our team does an engineering review of your panel, your loads, and your wiring to scope exactly what the battery can carry. In many homes a Duracell battery can back up the whole house, though not always: central AC, electric heat, electric water heaters, and electric dryers draw enough power to drain even a large battery quickly. At a minimum the system keeps your essential loads (lights, outlets, refrigerator, internet) running through an extended outage. We tell you what your specific home will get before you commit.

What happens if the solar panels or inverter I already own stop working?

Accepted Answer

Those stay under your original manufacturer and installer warranties. SOLRITE does not take over the warranty on solar you already own. The Battery Lease Agreement says it plainly: SOLRITE assumes no liability or duty of care for existing solar and has no obligation to monitor, maintain, or troubleshoot a pre-existing PV system. What we own and fully cover is the Duracell battery system we install, for the life of the agreement. So when you see SOLRITE talk about covering maintenance, repairs, and replacement, read that as the equipment SOLRITE owns. On a Battery VPA, that's the battery.

Today the Battery VPA is live in Texas (statewide, for homes that already have solar), Illinois (Ameren and ComEd territory), and Connecticut (Eversource and United Illuminating).
