How it works
in Illinois.
Daytime runs on solar
Central and southern Illinois averages 4.4 to 4.7 peak sun hours per day, and panels actually run more efficiently in cold temperatures. Surplus midday production charges your Duracell battery for the evening.
Battery captures the rest
Illinois ended 1:1 net metering for new solar customers in 2025. Exporting power is no longer worth what it used to be. The 60 kWh Duracell battery captures excess solar instead of exporting it, so every kWh you self-consume avoids the full retail rate.
Grid services pay for it
Your Duracell battery participates in a real Virtual Power Plant, supplying dispatches and other grid services that earn revenue. That revenue is what funds the equipment, not your wallet.
Why it works in Illinois
Ameren and ComEd bills keep climbing.
Yours don't have to.
Illinois electricity rates have climbed hard in recent years. Both Ameren and ComEd customers have seen supply rates jump, pushing summer rates toward 20¢/kWh, and the trend is up, not down.
Your SOLRITE solar rate is locked at 12¢/kWh. Predictable, while the utility's supply rate is not. Pair that with the 60 kWh Duracell battery, which captures your solar for evening use instead of exporting it for pennies, and the math finally works in post-2025 Illinois.

The credits got cut.
The battery is the fix.
Until 2025, exported solar in Illinois earned 1:1 retail credit on your bill, around 25¢ on every exported kWh. New Illinois customers, on Ameren and ComEd alike, now get credited only against the supply and transmission portion (roughly 8 to 11¢ per kWh), not the delivery charges. Solar sent back to the grid is worth about a third of what it used to be.
That is why every SOLRITE system in Illinois ships with a 60 kWh Duracell battery. Excess solar charges the battery instead of being exported. Your home runs on stored solar in the evening at the full retail equivalent, and the battery's VPP revenue covers the equipment cost.
